Branch (Concave) cutters are specialized bonsai shears designed to cleanly remove unwanted branches directly from the base of the trunk or parent branch. Alongside standard pruning shears, they are one of the most frequently used and indispensable tools in bonsai care.

The difference is whether the blade is straight or curved. The cut will change. Usually, after cutting with concave (branch) cutters, the cut ends are
sharpened with a knife.

The round blade cuts the branches as if gouging them, so there is less shaving work after cutting. Please think of the round blade as "Concave(branch cutter) straight edge + Knob cutters".Round blades are thinner than straight blades. The thinner the blade,the better the sharpness. However, being thin also means being weak. If you try to cut a thick branch forcibly, it will be chipped, so please be careful. Make sure to use a saw when cutting thick branches.

What size of branch can you cut with our branch (concave) cutter? You might think that if the blade length is 25mm then you can cut a branch of the same thickness. You would be mistaken.To cut safely and without damage, branch thickness should be a half to one third of your blade length.For instance, if your blade length is 25mm, then you can cut a branch of between 12mm to 8mm thickness.

Normally, please use the area marked with the blue circle when cutting branches. The area marked with the red circle is suitable only for cutting branches about 1–2 mm thick; attempting to cut thicker branches there will cause the blades to spread apart.

The point of edge.
In the case of cheaper cutters, the blades meet edge to edge just like tweezers which damages and blunts the blade edges and drastically shortens the life span of your tools.

However, with Kaneshin cutters, the right blade overlaps the top of the the left blade edge, so sharpness is maintained for much longer as well as durability when compared to cheaper cutters.

In reality, the cutters are a type of scissors, so it is right that the blades cross to operate properly. (How to choose the branch(Concave) cutters)

Please choose according to the size of the bonsai. Basically, large bonsai should be cut with a large branch cutters, and small bonsai (shohin bonsai) should be cut with a small branch cutters. However, depending on the thickness of the branch and ease of work, the type of branch cutting used will also change. I think you'll find out what size you need as you work, so I'd like you to think about it when the time comes. There is no need to prepare all sizes from the beginning.
